I'm assuming you want to make voltage controlled oscillators. The 7555 might be better for this.
The 4047 is usually used in fixed frequency oscillators...

Oooh, and you can buy 25 4047 chips for under $10 and 25 7555's for
$13 from Digi-Key.

Okay, looks like I have some more research to do!
