A bit late on responding to this thread but I'm also a newbie to
regarding DIY. After spending 10+ years on Analog Heaven I decide to
dive into the hobby.
I've found three really good books so far for reference.
"Getting Started in Electronics" by Forrest Mimms
"Make: Electronics (Learning by Discovery)" by Charles Platt
Both are on Amazon, the first one is available at Radio Shack.
And this 6-minute video on YouTube *finally* made sense to me
regarding interpreting schematics to breadboarding:
