I've seen the original "bucket brigade" paper... it was designed to provide 
delays of signals in analog computers back in the 1950s. But, being made of 
discrete components you didn't get much delay in a practical application.

Turning the whole business on its head, I have often wished there was a 
digital look-alike module to replace all those fragile and/or unobtanium 
BBDs in guitar fx. What would be the 'best' (cost, size, low parts) way to 
go about mainng an all-digital BBD look-alike?
