FWIW, for the one-offs I do, I design vinyl labels in Illustrator and have them printed at my local printer. They have a machine that even cuts out the holes I specify, so I don't have to cut out all of the holes for pots. The labels are self-adhesive, and look pretty good once they're on. I build three CAPI VP26's recently and used this method. They turned out pretty good (pics here along with the Illustrator file) http://www.samecoff.com/VP26.html and I felt the price was fair at $2.50 per sticker. I also recently did that again for a quad Thomas Henry MPS I'm building, again with very good results.

He uses the bake-on method where the printing is on the underside where its protected. I tried it twice with dismal results. I've tried printing on transparency materiel and using double-sided tape but the tape shows too much. Does anyone have another method of printing on clear material and attaching it onto aluminum panels?
