Assuming it's a two-stage resistor string, you can probably do something
about that with calibration...

I certainly found the internal DAC good enough for my use, which is mere
7-bit velocity values.

For any more than a few units, slinging a serial 16-bit DAC on an SPI is
going to be easier for demanding applications than calibrating the last LSB
out of the internal DAC.
