I've recently completed a pretty advanced board with gEDA/PCB, and I have to say that I like it a lot.
XWindows on a Mac.
There's a bit of a learning curve, I had to build many symbols and footprints myself, but I think that's true of just about any system. But overall I'm very impressed with it.
