Have you looked at the level of the Gate signal? I don't know about
the Octave stuff, but if it's anything like an ARP (and it kind of
is), then it needs a pretty healthy gate signal - something on the
order of +10V or more. Perhaps the gate signal from the MIDI-CV
converters is too low?
