The easiest thing to do, and this is what I have done on a couple of 
occasions for 909s, is to get the transformer repaired. Don't do this 
yourself as it's a beggar of a job but there are quite a few places 
about that will do it for you. They should be able to strip the 
transformer, rewire it and re-encapsulate it. They all seem to manned by 
old chaps who have doing the same job for years. If you contact some of 
the valve wireless and amp repair guys they should be able to point you 
in the right direction for a local firm.

On other instruments I have simply replaced the transformer but the 909 
has a very small and unusual footprint so nigh on impossible to get a 
direct replacement.

Fitting an SMPS would be possible but it's pretty damned tight in there.
