[sdiy] More infinite-phasing examples

I think there is an example of 'infinite phasing' at the end of Pink Floyd's
"Echoes" from the album Meddle.
Richie: how many notches are in the audio range at any one time ? Can the
number of notches be increased. If they could be increased, would the resultant sound
have more of an effect, or would the overall effect be less dramatic ?
As this is (also) called "barberpole" phasing I'm thinking about the number of stripes
on the pole. At one end of the spectrum, the pole might have only one stripe (notch)
and at the other end, the pole would be "pink" (assuming the traditional red/white
color scheme)
I (once) envisioned using multiple notch VCF driven by ramps (up or down) with
VCAs to blank (mute) the retrace. The notches could be controlled for bandwidth if you like,
octave spaced (or other). I think this might sound a lot different than the frequency
shifted method.
It would be really complex, but maybe not any more complex that the frequency shifted method...
