All depends on how you are designing the UI.  If the value being set is 
shown on a display, and alternative is to treat each display digit 
separately.  Set the units, click, set the tens, click, set the 
hundreds, click, set the thousands, click - and you're back at units 
again.  This is exactly how I'm coding for a centre-click encoder I'm 
using as a control for setting clocks I'm building, also as the UI on my 
digital synth stuff.
