Email has always been text. In the nineties, some email clients
gained an HTML rendering engine. Users of such email clients
often assume that all others do but that's not the case. Mine
doesn't.

HTML email is bloated and hard to grep. If you have a text
mailer, it's hard to read. If you have an HTML mailer, it's a
security risk. For what gain ? From what I've seen, it's mostly
used to impose your choice of fonts and colours on your readers.
