I guess that depends on the relative prices. It should be possible to construct a sample and hold mulitplexer for a DAC output to 12 bit, memory moog style but I am beginning to suspect that there is no cost advantage - MAX5500A, 12 bit, 0.75INL quad output for circa $6.
Get that deja vu feeling TimP - had a chance to play with them yet?
