What i meant was that the complete autotune routine takes time
its not only one parameter, its more like VCO pitch, VCF freq,
VCF reso break point, VCA amplitudes if serious use of OFM and
FFM are to be achieved (see A6 poly OFM flaw due to this)
VCO PW center and endpoints over a certain range etc and 
this is for single chip CEM/SSM solutions.

Besides read what the Xpander servicemanual page24 says about
OFM/FFM and their use of a 4 quadrant DAC instead of a VCA.
Im not saying it holds water just that some decided to use
something "else" then a VCA, auto calibrated or not.
The real reason might have simply been they running
out of CV channels! ;)
