As far as I remember the book of Ikutaro Kakehashi right, Multivox was a 
brand of the US company that imported Roland to the US in the early days 
(maybe it was also the name of the company). They made some own 
instruments based on Roland developments. Today you would call it 
"products based on OEM parts".
