Not sure what you're upgrading from - but, since you've had plenty of recommendations for top of the line models, for a good budget model - I'd suggest looking at Xytronic. I've happily used one of their cheapest models for the past few years without a hitch - and it's had lots of use. Recently upgraded to the LF-2000, w/- temp control - it's a pleasure to work with.
I've never owned a Weller or a Hakko - so maybe I'm missing out.
I'll repeat the advice about getting spare tips - whatever you buy. I was eventually able to source a couple of spares for the LF-2000 - but I did have to convince a shop in Kansas to post them to London.
