I once stepped on an IC barefoot. it went into the callous on the heel. I got to 
sit there and pull it out with a pair of pliers because everyone was too busy 
laughing to help. Since then walking barefoot in the lab was called "going for 
the 14-pin blood test". And yes, barefoot makes you a dip  ;-)

As a related note, it's also a good idea to wear pants (not shorts)
when soldering...
