Aw shucks, it's just a 16-bit fixed-point 218x.  Not the worst,

iirc, my Evolver has the AD chip, a PLCC and a 40-pin PIC.  I agree,  
I'm guessing the PLCC is the flash mem for the AD chip, cuz that DSP  
has no flash.

I think the DIP40 was a PIC.  I don't think it was a dsPIC cuz i don't  
think it does any signal processing, just sequencing, MIDI, buttons,  
screen, and driving D/A's for the analog circuitry.  It's basically a  
Mirage CPU ;)


p.s.  the evolver is a wonderful thing.  I mounted mine into a  
portable case with rechargeable batteries and a headphone jack:
