The MN5837 has an internal clock source, so you have no control over  
it whatsoever (other than perhaps varying the supply voltage, which  
*might* change the internal clock frequency).

You apply power and ground, and out comes the SCHUFFSCHUFFSCHUFFSCHUFF..
