[sdiy] 1N4001 equivalent in SOT-23?

Hi!
Thats right what Jerry says...
There is an option in between: using MELF parts in glass housing that are compatible to the wired 1N4004...
But they are more expensive... and not SOT23 (that can not handle big power dissipation)

I would be very careful about using surface mount parts for power handling.
I have seen some attempts to do this when the thermal mass and heat
dissipation characteristics were not carefully evaluated.
The surface mount devices are much smaller so they heat up faster and have
less surface area for heat dissipation, so they cool down slower with
disastrous results ( charred PCB and blown parts ). In several cases the
quick fix was to go back to the through hole parts.
Through hole parts tend to much more rugged and forgiving than their surface
mount equivalents.

Hey all,
Title says it all really - I'm looking or a SOT-23 replacement for the
humble 1N4001. It's for a module that will be on a +/12V supply, it'll be
doing reverse voltage protection in conjunction with PTC fuses and a little
half-wave rectification on AC signals that shouldn't ever get more than 10V
PP...
The only one I've found that comes close is this:
http://uk.farnell.com/nxp/pmeg2010/diode-schottky-1a-20v-sot-23/dp/1510676?N
tt=1510676
...should I be concerned that the Max Reverse Voltage is 20V (rather than
the 50V of the 1N4001)? It's one of the few components I'm considering
keeping as through-hole but it'd be real nice to find a suitable candidate.
I'm UK-based but I've got no problem with ordering from OS.
Thanks all.
J
