[sdiy] Mutant Filter ????????????

Vactrol based filters tend to allow a LOT more signal amplitude so signal to noise
rstios can be fairly good. OTOH they are resistors and tend to be a bit noisy on their own.
Low noise opamps might not give much improvement as the opamps are not the most likely
noise sources anyway...
but no reason not to try...
TL084's are not too bad noise-wise. They have a really high input impedance which is usually why
they are used... a lot of "low noise" opamps are lower impedance. Fix one thing and break another...
search the archives for everyones favorite opamp replacement choices.

Subject: [sdiy] Mutant Filter ????????????
I'm looking into build a Scott Stites Mutant Filter.
http://www.birthofasynth.com/Scott_Stites/Pages/mutant_main.html
I'm wondering if anyone else has made one and had any changes or
recommendations on modifications?
I'm thinking about building it such that it can be strapped for the
different variations (LP, BP, HP) and also to strap in other
feedback/resonance options. One question that I have which someone might
have some input on is lower noise op-amps. Since this filter is opto based
and not noisy OTA based I'm wondering if lower noise op-amps might make a
difference in this circuit?
Anyways, thanks, enjoy the day.
