Hi,
sorry for the late post.
I wonder if any of the inputs or outputs to the 4016 go above or below [
in voltage] the supply lines to it ?
I had problems with a Gleeman Pentaphonic several years ago where
someone had changed the ic that connected to the ram enable line on the
backup ram with a more modern ic. [ I think it was a 74138 ].
this caused the backup battery to discharge more than it should .....
so the unit would work and then the battery would go flat after a day or so.
there was a pullup resistor to the backup battery supply and with the
newer ic when the 138 was not powered by its own supply the output pin
had a protection diode to the supply voltage.
[ the battery backup supply only connected to the ram chip and a couple
of pull up resistors ]
it took adding in some additional circuitry to stop this happening.
back to the original question.
I do think it is possible that occasionally using s different brand of
Ic can have an effect on how some circuits work.
