The thing with copper is, if you have a septic tank (fermentation) sewerage 
system, you don't want any copper in it, because copper is particularly bad 
for the active microbes.

I'd just add "too much" aluminium (that is, five times as much as the copper 
that was removed) and leave it until no blue copper ions can be seen in 
solution. Iron works as well, though slower.
