A rough and ready source of a template is an old PC case or add-on card back
plate. Saw it out, drill the two mounting holes, and then securer you
template to the workpiece with the same holes. Drill and file the hole to
shape using any of the techniques others have already suggested. The hole
punches are great, but usually need a press, and are quite costly. Some PC
cu-outs are 'handed, (i'e' they match the 'D' cutout), some are 'universal',
and allow the 'D' connector to be mounted either way round. If you find more
than one'template', then it can be used to file up against, since it doesn't
matter if you damage it a bit.
