[sdiy] Nut Question

I have encoders that have a M7x0.75 thread, its a common size (alpha parts
have that thread: http://www.mouser.com/catalog/specsheets/TW-700029.pdf).
They are usually fine pitch since you can get more threads that way on a
very short height nut.
Bad example of the half size on my part, you only see those up to M5.5.
At the end of the day, I would venture to say that it WONT be a standard
size, the above Alpha parts have a version in a M9x0.75 which is not even
listed in my Machinery's Handbook as a size in ANY standards system

M6.5 ? Is there really such a thing ? Never even heard of it.
ISO M* screws preferred sizes in this range are M6 and M8. In
addition, you have "second choice" sizes like M7. You won't find
any M7 at your local hardware store (big or small) but screw
specialists stock them. At least where I live.
BUT... An unqualified M size implies coarse pitch (for M7,
1.0 mm). M7 x 0.75 is a fine pitch variant and those are always
twice as hard to find as their coarse pitch counterparts.
Plus "nut" implies normal height and you're probably looking for
a reduced height nut (jam nut).
Good luck.
