This is a farily commone failure mode in various equipment.... waiting for 
the LCD busy flag to de-assert and the LCD is defective, missing or there is 
a bad connection.  You can on a (working) unit if you are vulnerable to this 
if, after disconnecting the LCD, the unit fails to otherwise operate.
