First of all I apologize for posting this here but I thought it would
be interesting and educational to see what you guys and gals have to say.
Due to let's some personal and financial hardships, I've had to sell
most of my rig, including my MacBook. All I've got to use for music
now is an old HP Pavilion 513n (Cubase, FM7) and Novation x-25 for
audio I/O. I've used this setup before it's just so painfully
inadequate in terms of raw processing power and memory (Celeron 1.8
Ghz w/ 512 MB or ram).
Now I have a chance to upgrade the motherboard to a Celeron 2.5 Ghz
with 1 Gb of ram - the exact same mobo (Asus).
The whole ordeal will set me back roughly $100 big ones. So you might
be able to guess what my next question will be.
Yes I am wondering what that 'improvement' effectively translates to
in terms of running one sequencer app and maybe one Vst plug in.
Will this be significantly faster than what I've got now ? One would
think the ram doubling would be enough but it doesn't warrant $100
for the whole mobo.
Thanks and again I apologize for the off topic subject matter - well
, it is about music and electronics !
P.S. I still use my Atari Mega2 (Cubase)and Alesis MMT8 for MIDI
sequencing and prefer those to the bloatware most people use today.
