A few years back, I got this ESQ-1 from Tim (Servo) Parkhurst, who sold it to be under the premise that it wasn't making sounds, and that three keys were marked as dead. My attempts to service it have been lacking, and have resulted in the darkening of the fluorescent screen.
I bumped a regulator with my meter while it was powered on, resulting in a spark there and the aforementioned darkening of the screen - it still *does* light up though.
There's a thread about the whole experience in the archives (http://search.retrosynth.com/synth-diy/), under the subject "My Fancy Paperweight, the ESQ.
Raineer Buchty has the schematics and service manual on his website: http://www.buchty.net/ensoniq/. My thanks again to Raineer for his help back when I first asked.
Make me an offer, cash or maybe trade, local pickup in the SF Bay Area preferred. It's a stocky beast.
Coming with the package: an original spiral-bound copy of the owner's manual, and an additional set of ESQ-1 specific control ICs and ROMs I bought towards my servicing attempt (list available upon request - call these "brain" parts).
There's a bunch of CEMs in there, a 5 octave keyboard, and nice sturdy chassis with modulation and pitch bend wheels if you can't get it to run at stock. It's just collecting dust for me otherwise.
_Kyle
