Confirmed.  I was trying to do this last night.  No go with Ubuntu ; 
(   my buddy suggested i use resize2fs on my ext4 partition to make it  
smaller and install CentOS (also free).  I'm very tempted.  I want to  
make a floating-point coprocessor.
