Well, C is easy to read and more portable, however, if you want best
speed/performance, you'll need to use assembly.
One key thing, you'll need to ensure that you update the output of
your oscillator at regular intervals... If the C compiler you have
will allow you to do that, all well and good.

TTL should be able to do that, as long as you don't have the path's
too long or too fast, you should be fine.
Gotta agree with Scott though, FPGAs are made for this kind of
thing... though I *WISH* they had more onboard RAM/EEPROM :-)
