What's your opinion, Grant? Do you think I'd be better off with a 74HC244 buffer between my LCD bus and the displays? Or isn't it worth it?

Well, I might finish up with a pretty similar interface. It gives you lots of knobs and controls, doesn't tie you down as far as having second thoughts and adding new features is concerned (and I know what I'm like in that regard), and avoids the meaningless-knob-positions problem of programmable analogue polysynths. Anyway, Bowen can't (and wouldn't, I'm sure) claim to have invented it. The Xpander did the same thing.
