I had been writing basic in my teens along with Z80 and 6502 assembly - I had a Camputers Lynx running CPM, Commadore PETs and BBC micros at school. Did some Occam at university (electrical and electroinc engineering) along with 6800 assembler.

My first and second jobs were in electronics but redundancy and a slow down in the job market got me looking at software jobs.

I bluffed my way through a few interviews and got offered junior posts at all of them. I took one at a small OEM and consultancy place and was thrown straight into DOS based project to do on my own. I learnt C and DOS very very quickly.
