[sdiy] ESD Wrist Strap?

Considering we went through a full ESD audit at work, here's what I
would recommend:
Desco is basically the biggest ESD specific company out there. 3M and
a few other companies have stuff, but they are not as good of quality
and the cost savings is minimal. For the wrist strap, I'd pick a Desco
09039 economy strap. It comes with a 6' grounding cord which should
plug into the pod that attaches to your static mat. The best one I can
find for economical purposes is the desco 66050. It's a 24"x36" mat
that includes a 15' common point grounding cord and snap mounting kit.
This will cover your working area fairly well for the work you do. The
pricing I got at my usual source (www.hmcelectronics.com) is under
$100 for the pair.
Best,

I've always just used a scrap piece of unfinished pine, at first to protect the desk I was working on, but I was told by same same guy who talked to me about wrist straps that the board was actually probably serving to provide at least some ESD protection.
