Well then it's not a system-wide solution, and the only chips at risk are
those on that particular module (unless, by plugging in that module's cable
wrong, one shorts the rail for the entire distro board or system -- again,
presumably, the distro board solution would save you by isolating that
entire board from the PSU (and the rest of the system from that board)).
The idea here was to protect all of the sensitive chips in the system (or,
at least, the cabinet) from a PSU hiccup of some sort.
