Yeah.  Two suggestions:

1.  Read Kurt Vonnegut's "Player Piano" (1956)
2.  Watch "WALL-E" (2008)

Two very different visions of a "future" dystopia, both based on the idea
that we are building a world around ourselves which ultimately won't require
our direct input.  It's not a good thing.
