It isn't all that easy to just replace a specific chip with discretes -
discrete lends itself
to some circuits, but others are easier built on chip, eg. often you want
matched
parts that track in temperature.
That MC1495 brings back memories, I designed my first commercial ring mod
using that
along with an ICL8038 oscillator chip. First the 1495 went out of
production, then the
8038!! Probably better with the LM13700 oscillator and AD633, but
still......
