Fair enough, but it depends on how much current you are drawing - I've had 
trouble with
a lightly loaded 18V AC transformer exceeding 30V through a half wave 
rectifier.

At least we can probably agree that the power supply, although the simplest 
looking
part of a synth, certainly needs to be looked at carefully. And yeah, those 
heatsinks..
no wonder the world has gone switchmode!
