FWIW the Macbeth M5 is hardly a 2600 clone. It's quite different in sound
and features. Even more so when you look at it module by module. It
cleverly *does* have the same color scheme as the last version of the 2600
but that doesn't make it sound the same :)

Arp 2600s can still be found for under $5000. Dealers ask $7-8K for them
but it's rare to see one actually sell for that. I recently sold a
greyface 2600 in good shape with the original 4012 "Moog" filter and CMS
audio path upgrades for $4500. I was asking $5500 and had no serious
buyers and then the speakers started to act up so it working but "as is".

I suppose I could have put it on Eb*y and perhaps gotten more but even
there prices are all over the place and by the time you've paid listing
and paypal fees the money made is considerably less than what it sold for.
Both the buyer pays more and the seller gets less. I was quite happy with
a direct sale to a great buyer who snatched it up and it giving it a new
life in a loving home :)

An Arp 2600 in decent condition for $3000 is a steal IMO. There really is
no other synth out there past of present that has the features, user
interface, and sound that a 2600 has. Whether it is worth whatever asking
price one comes across is an individual decision. I moved on to a mamoth
Modcan/Cyndustries A series modular and am enjoying that more but when all
is said and done I'm sure I've paid a LOT more than what a 2600 costs at
this point :)
