[sdiy] Free CAD (was: Proteus software)

I love Eagle. I tried at least a half dozen different layout/schematic
applications, free and commercial, and Eagle really clicked for me. I found
the interface to be intuitive and easy. I found it simple to use for
building the dozens of custom components I needed for my Synthasystem
resurrection. It has a robust ERC and DRC which found any problem I created.
I personally find the schematics easy to read and it was very straight
forward as I was re-capturing the Synthasystem schematics. You can easily
move labels around and it's trivial to extend a schematic over multiple
pages. The auto-router gave me a good starting point for the routing and
often, I had to do very little to clean it up.
The one I was using before I switched to Eagle was Target. Very powerful,
but I found the interface to be very counter intuitive and cumbersome.
To each his/her own I guess.

-- I agree completely about Eagle. I found use of Eagle is painful in the
extreme and no-one
-- should ever be made to use if for anything, least of all drawing
circuits.
