I try to do everything on one chip for:
- Ease of development - not having to reconnect or toggle things
around everytime I want to debug/update a new component.
- Ease of deployment. At the small scale I operate I burn the chips
"by hand", so the less I have to burn, the better. Not sure what the
people here who have distributed their projects do for this one...
- Possibility of providing easy to deploy (MIDI) firmware upgrades.
Once things are broken down into too many small parts, there's no
point installing a MIDI or serial capable bootloader on all of them,
and managing the mess that distributing an upgrade on all those guys
will be.
