[sdiy] DIY -ish Sampler modules?

I have always been interested in VC sampler type units. Over the years
there have been many very cool delay units which can *kind of* do sampling
(Modcan Digital delay and CV recorder come to my mind since I'm a Modcan A
format aficionado). But outside of the Doepfer A112 Wavetable/Sampler I
don't know of any modular synth oriented samplers let alone anything DIY.
Does anyone know of any kits or PCBs currently in production that could
fit the broad category of CV type sampler?
Along the same lines if there are any currently manufactured modules by
some cool ass Modular start-up that I'm unaware of in the past few years
I'd love to be educated on what the kids are up to these days :)
FWIW I'm not as interested in on the fly sampling as much as real-time
modulation of sample frequency, start/stop times, looping, etc. To that
end if someone has a brutally raw DIY plan of some weird children's toy or
other mechanism which could be converted to such a nefarious purpose I'm
all ears too :)
Thanks for any/all help.
