Thomas Henry has a nice VC Digital Noise Source that uses three 4015
chips and a 4046 for the VC clock. Schematics in "An Analog
Synthesizer for the 21st Century."

Also, our own Tom Wiltshire has source code posted on his page for a
PIC-based noise gen.
