[sdiy] backplane connector recommendation?

Thinking about it for a while I seem to recall a time when edge connectors 
came in about three flavors. Bare copper, silver color, I think this was 
just tinned copper and the ubber expensive gold finish. As I also seem to 
recall the copper connectors did tend to have problems with oxidation, the 
tinned connectors were a lot better but the gold connectors were (are) the 
best. I also recall the first thing to try when any of these were used in a 
device that was not working, was (is) to clean the edge fingers with an 
eraser (like on a no 2 pencil). I think that over time the gold fingers 
became the standard due to better performance and greatly reduced cost over 
the years. However I seem to recall that the tinned copper fingers were 
pretty reliable and easy to clean when they did act up.
