I wouldn't use a connector where the PCB itself is the plug in a DIY  
project. Unless the plug part of the PCB is gold plated, it's  
unreliable.

There are also smaller (and cheaper) versions of DIN 41612 connectors  
than the standard 64 or 96 pins.
