I've definitely experienced it, and have the scars to prove it! I used to
work in a sheet metal shop, so I've been cut fairly badly several times.
Only once did I need stitches and it was from a "rotating hand slicer" (AKA
"the finger remover").
Goggles are a must. And clamp that thang!
