The vector-variant I described has all reasons to be equivalent to the 
union variant. Union is indeed a good way to solve it, but it doesn't 
help to teach Paul how pointers work, which is useful when going outside 
of the example at hand.

The incrementing pointer could possibly be optimized too, but it is not 
as easy to see that it will.
