[IKEA whore mode ON]
Brandon Daniel used IKEA Stolmen series shelves to hold his
synthesizers and gizmos - they have rail sets that you bolt to the
floor and ceiling then attach shelves via friction clamps. Quite a
nice solution for getting keyboards and other tabletop instruments out
of the way. The nice thing is you can squish the shelving as dense as
you want, so you can have your keys and such on display while not
taking up a ton of room if you want to use them as synth modules.
Pretty economical too - $60 for a pair of posts then load it up with
shelves and shoe racks as desired.
As far as desks go, I'm outfitting my geeky side of the new workspace
with 2-3 FREDRIK series computer tables, mainly because of the two
upper shelves in the mix. It will provide me with enough space for my
TFT panels doing design and other such work, as well as shelving for
test equipment and temporary parts storage.

That's my $0.02
