I used to buy replacement belts from MCM electronics, I don't remember them being really expensive...

You might consider it like animal rescue, you're saving an old tape deck from going to the pound... :^)

Thanks for all the answers, it seems to be a combo of worn 
out belts and something else i've yet to find. Considering new belts are more expensive then the units are used i'll probably trash the deck 
unless i can make it work with some rubber bands from the dollar store 
:)
