[sdiy] OT: Repairing tape decks?

Most of these cassette tape decks have some kind of
optical way to check the 'speed' the tape rolls and
if the speed goes too slow the cpu inside the deck
stops the motor and gives a 'end of tape' message.
Most of the time there is a small plastic wheel that
(when rotating) do ON-OFF-ON-OFF-... sequence
on an optical beam read by the cpu. This informs
the deck that the cassette spins and everything is Ok mechanicaly
speaking. Sometimes the led of the beam dies
or the wheel's strap get broken and then the
ON-OFF-ON-OFF sequence stops 'idle'
even if the tape try to spin..
Just check that first..
Also be aware old cassette tends to get
harder to spins with times but not always.
