I assume you mean a single input Differentiator - not a dual input Differential?

Can you elaborate on what you mean by 'across the VCA' considering that (as I'm sure you know) Collector is 'Audio In', Base is 'CV In' and the Emitter is 'Audio Out'?

Do you mean getting the VCA transistor into the feedback loop in the same way a Log Amp does?

I've never used a Log Amp or a Differentiator - but I'll definitely give them all a try.
