Scratchpad RAMs, like 7489 were used in digital processes for holding temporary results, such
as a sum of numbers. The output of the RAM would then be used in other computations. So it
might be a bit difficult to show an application schematic that would make sense.
In my youth, I had some 7489 RAMs, these are 16 addressable 4 bit words. I used them with a
switch panel to input numbers into the RAM, then a 555 timer clocked a counter connected to
the address lines of the RAM. The output of the RAM was used to select a note from a salvaged
organ board and voila - cheesey top octave sequencer. It was also fun to power it up and play
whatever power on random crap was in the RAM.
